Sunday, September 12th

I'm sending you yesterday afternoon in Maine.

We had one of those fall days (way too soon for fall) that you can't get enough of. Days that are perfect for watching a game outdoors, for walking in the woods, for taking a nap. I went paddling out on the lake, slowly along the shore, trying to sneak up on turtles sunning themselves on fallen trees. I could hear loons, and the osprey yelling at me as I approached their nest, and the lake grasses sliding along the bottom of the canoe. I followed a pair of loons as they dove and resurfaced, always just a little farther away each time, until finally they lost me.

It was just warm enough to want to sit out of the sun unless there was a breeze. I had my killer sun hat on. (Sorry, no pictures).

I paddled and drifted up one side of the lake, a little past Kent's Hill ski slope, and down the other.

It was the kind of day that you look at the light and the sky and hear the breeze and think "I should do this more often".

A Saturday in Maine for you,
with love,

JohnB

  1. I shared this with some friends here, trying to describe how much I miss Maine. I haven't quite adapted to city life and it was nice to get a glimpse of the beautiful weather over there. Thanks!
